Council acts on danger
Some concerns have been raised regarding the removal of nine coconut palms from along Ocean View Drive at Port Douglas.
The trees removed posed a direct safety risk to motorists, as they were growing on an angle and overhanging the road. There had been reports that motorists had swerved to avoid falling fronds, which prompted a decision to remove the trees.
The safety of both motorists and pedestrians needs to take priority and where safety is compromised, Council will act accordingly. Trees that did not pose a safety risk were not removed.
