Bloggers to get lucky with Reef comp
TEN lucky bloggers from around the world will get to experience the Great Barrier Reef as part of a “Queensland Blogger Correspondent” competition with Tourism Queensland.
TQ have teamed up with Australian blogger Darren Rowse, who has a following online of over five-million, to offer the winners blogging training and tips and a five-day trip to Queensland.
The catch: the lucky bloggers have to spend a couple of hours a day blogging about their experience either on a tropical island or under the canopy of the world’s oldest rainforest, the Daintree.
TQ Digital marketing director Chris Chambers said the itinerary for the adventure will be kept quiet but the winners will be “very close to Port Douglas”.
“After the success of the best job in the world and other recent digital marketing, we saw an opportunity to reach new audiences through bloggers and an opportunity to get into new markets,” he said.
“Some of the comments being posted include people being just as excited to meet Darren as they are to come to tropical North Queensland and see the Reef.
“The prize includes a couple of workshop sessions with Darren to learn some of Darren’s tips and tricks with blogging and how he got to where he is.”
Tapping in to the social media market has already paid off, with the news going viral two days after the competition was announced.
“I think traditional advertising that tourism destinations have been running with is losing its impact and we need to maintain a good marketing mix,” Mr Rowse said.
“We are able to get a mass audience through this type of promotion, through a slightly different and quirky message.
“The story was picked up by Yahoo, by the Wall Street Journal and 392 websites, which delivered 180 million impressions, within the first two days.”
Entries are open now and will close next Tuesday, April 17 and winners will be announced April 24.
