Musical “I do”

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

OF all the instruments Kayn Kieler could have played at the “open mike” night at the Central Hotel, on Thursday, he chose to pluck the heart strings and go down on one knee and propose to his gorgeous girlfriend Linda Khuu who was sitting in the crowd.

You couldn’t hear a pin drop but you did hear the thump and bump of lubricating glasses as a hush came over the happy crowd and anxious beating hearts as Kayn awaited the answer from Linda . . . luckily she was in tune with his feelings and said “Yes!”

The crowd erupted with a collective phew . . . which was quickly followed by hearty cheers of congratulations and much back-slapping and a lots of thumping and bumping of glasses as many patrons rushed to the happy couple (and themselves) a round of congratulatory drinks.

The happy couple are from Cronulla, in Sydney, and were holidaying in Port Douglas.

Kayn said that they had stopped in to watch the open mike and he said that it was such a good vibe with a really happy crowd, and that is why he decided to propose then and there.

Linda said that she was shocked to see him take the stage after the bar’s resident musicians took a break from playing.

“I was really surprised to see him with the mike because I knew he didn’t play an instrument, or sing, and so when he then got down on one knee and proposed to me I was stunned . . . absolutely shocked,” Linda said.

Kayn has a plumbing business in Cronulla and Linda is a cabin crew manager for Jetstar and the couple were in Port Douglas for two weeks to explore the region including the Daintree and Cape Tribulation.

And will they be back to get married in Port?

“We just might,” Kayn said.

“It is such a friendly place and everyone was wonderful to us . . . we would love to get married here!”
