Orchid mania coming to the Shire Hall
A QUEEN among flowers, the orchid is majestic and if you desire to appreciate some marvellous specimens then get along to the Douglas Orchid Society’s flower show this Saturday at the Mossman Shire Hall from 9am until to 2pm.
The president of the Douglas Orchid Society, Ron Savage, said everyone is welcome to come along (it’s free entry) and discuss any aspect of the flowers or how to grow them.
“There will be a number of orchids and tropical plants set out on tables for people to view or to buy,” Mr Savage said.
“And they are welcome to discuss any issue about growing orchids with myself or any other member of the Society and people coming along will be able to buy these exotic flowers too.”
On display will be potted orchids in flower along with floral art and a cut flower display.
“We try to break the flowers up into various sections and species but we never know what, or how many we are going to get, until our members come in with their plants,” Mr Savage said.
“I aim for a minimum of 80 to 100 plants so plants on display will be well over 100, including cut flowers and floral art.
“But it will be certainly be worth coming along.”
