THE installation of the floating walkway near the Port Douglas boat ramp is likely to cause interruptions until later next month.
For the past couple of weeks only half of the existing boat ramp has been available to boaties and fishermen as a dredger undertakes work to dig and sink post holes for the new, floating pontoon walkway.
The new walkway is a key focus of the Waterfront Master Plan and has been designed to be a “walkable waterfront” providing public access to the water’s edge from the Rex Smeal Park all the way along the waterfront to the yacht club.
This will include a variety of paths, quayside boardwalks, and floating pontoons.
The Department of Main Roads and Transport said boaties will once again have full access to the boat ramp next month when the works are completed.
