Flaming firies compete

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

GET down and cheer on the local firies this weekend as they compete against the best in the Far North firefighter competition.

Firies from Mossman and Port Douglas are competing against 12 other teams from across the region, from Cardwell to Thursday Island and will show-off their skills on both Saturday and Sunday.

The aim of the competition is to build up core firefighting skills, with events that can be utilised in a fire, including hose-handling, erection of ladders and pump operation - and also to have some fun.

There will also be a community safety expo held with a focus on home fire safety.

Locals are encouraged to attend and vist home fire safety displays, book a free Safehome visit, and talk to competing officers about fire safety matters.

You can catch all the action at Reynolds Park on Davidson St from 7.30am on both days.
