Port women to walk world
WOMEN of Douglas, it is time to tie up your shoelaces and walk with women all around the world this Sunday.
The Country Women of the World’s annual ’Women Walk the World’ day raises money and awareness of women living in third-world conditions, with an aim to relieve poverty and to improve health and education.
This year the Port Douglas Country Women’s Association have joined in with their worldly counterparts and invite everyone from the community to join in for the cause.
Port Douglas CWA member Faye Hudson said the organisation plans to walk twice around the block to make five kilometres starting from their hall on Blake St.
“It is literally happening all around the world and you don’t have to be a member, you can walk anytime in April but most people are doing it on the 29th and the idea is to raise money and help projects,” she said.
“Because we are a very small group we are combining with the Anglican Church on that afternoon at 4pm and after we’re going to have a sausage sizzle.
“It would be wonderful if other people would join in.”
Money is being raised through sponsorships and donations can be made by popping in to the CWA Hall tomorrow afternoon or when you join in with the walk on Sunday afternoon.
