Cooya Beach kids give new play­ground the thumbs up

FAM­I­LIES in Cooya Beach fi­nally have some new play­ground equip­ment cour­tesy of the Ocean Breeze de­vel­oper and Cairns Re­gional Coun­cil.

Melbourne-based de­vel­oper John Chivers said they joined forces with the coun­cil to jointly fund the new equip­ment af­ter con­ver­sa­tions with lo­cal res­i­dents about what was needed for Lou Prince Play­ground.

“We re­alised there are many young fam­i­lies in the com­mu­nity and the play equip­ment wasn’t suit­able for the younger kids,” he said.

“There is new play equip­ment, a pro­posed bar­be­cue area, shade sails to go up and new trees be­ing planted.

“It’s now a more all-age fam­ily-friendly play­ground.”

Cooya Beach res­i­dent Naomi Arthur­son said lo­cals are lov­ing the new at­trac­tion.

“It was great to see the park so busy over the week­end,” she said.

“The poles are up and we are ex­pect­ing the shade sails to be added soon which will be an­other great ad­di­tion.”

Mr Chivers is keen for a small open­ing cer­e­mony of for the park up­grade in con­junc­tion with the stage four com­ple­tion of the es­tate.
