Encore for top artists

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - ENTERTAINMENT -

ENCORE Concerts is bringing two internationally renowned artists to perform in Mossman tonight for a great night of music just in time for Mother’s Day.

After her recent Italian tour of Porgy and Bess, internationally acclaimed opera diva - and now Craiglie resident - Alteouise de Vaughn makes her much anticipated comeback.

Besides having sung leading roles in Opera Houses in Europe and the USA, Alteouise is highly regarded as a singer of Oratorio and Spirituals.

Recently Opera Australia offered Alteouise a major role in Verdi’s Il Trovatore at Sydney Opera House later in the year, a role she has sung in New York, San Francisco, New Orleans, Germany and Italy.

One of her starring roles is Carmen, which she has sung to great acclaim in Germany, Italy and USA and Alteouise has included some of its arias in her forthcoming program.

In addition to this, Alteouise will sing a bracket of Spirituals including her unique rendition of Amazing Graze.

Much loved concert pianist Yevgen Ukhanov needs no further introduction and can be proudly referred to as our own “resident concert pianist” since he first delighted our audiences in 2000 as a major prize winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition.

Yevgen has since won the admiration of audiences around the world with his brilliant technique and profound musicianship and has brought many “firsts” to the Far North. Ukraine-born Yevgen will perform the same repertoire which he recently performed in Government House to great acclaim, which includes the “grand” romantic second sonata by Rachmaninov, a work rarely performed due to its technical demands.

His program also includes works by Chopin.

The concert will be held at St Augustine’s Church in Mossman tonight at 6.30pm. Tickets are $25 adults, $20 pensioners or $10 youths and are available at the door or by calling Herman Soenario on 4093 9018.
