Dragons get away win

DOUGLAS United Second Division knew this game was a must win so they could get in amongst the top of the table and they delivered with a solid performance against Leichardt.

The game was topped off with a spectacular performance by returning player Ashley Woods. Douglas could not have hoped for a better start with a goal in 40 seconds.

The ball played out wide, crossed in perfectly to find the head of returning player Ashley Woods.

The keeper was able to get hands to it but Ash kept his nerve and tapped it in for 1-0 and the best possible start.

Douglas then took control of the game and around 15 minutes later Ashley Woods got the ball 25 yards out let rip and found the far corner of the net for his and Douglas’s second on the night. The first half then began to fizzle out with few chances for either team but Douglas dominated the main share of possession and went in at the half happy with both score line and performance.

The second half was again dominated by Douglas who started to play some of the best football they have all season, knocking the ball around well and pressuring the opposition.

As the game entered the final stretch Leichhardt produced something that did not seem likely all game and that was a goal.

The game was 2-1 and Douglas suddenly felt uncomfortable but held on.

The "Paddys Irish Bar Man Of The Match Award" had to go to Ashley Woods who not only returned to score two great goals but also celebrated his 40th birthday on the night.

Douglas travel to high flying side Hmong Cairns FC this Friday for game 7.
