CAR­NI­VALE 2012 is set to have an ex­cit­ing open­ing week with gourmet events kick­ing off the party fes­ti­val.

Or­gan­iser Ken Dobbs said ev­ery­one’s favourite time of the year was shap­ing up bet­ter than ever.

“There are some great events tak­ing place such as the Sher­a­ton Mi­rage Long­est Lunch, Audi Palates of Port and Food, Wine and a Taste of Port over the first two days,” he said.

Lo­cals and vis­i­tors alike will get to see cricket greats in ac­tion at the Queens­land Rail Bull Mas­ters game at Port Dou­glas Sports Com­plex.

Mr Dobbs also en­cour­aged lo­cals to reg­is­ter for the street pa­rade in the sec­ond week as “it’s a re­flec­tion of the town and demon­strates our vi­brancy to the peo­ple vis­it­ing Port Dou­glas.”
