Bob’s up for cricket

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

NEW Cairns Regional Council Mayor Bob Manning has signed up for next weekend’s Ironbar Carnivale beach cricket competition.

The beach cricket competition is a crowd favourite for Carnivale Beach Day, to be held on Saturday, May 26, and “The Mayor’s Magnificent Seven” reckon they have what it takes to take out the social slog.

“I go all right in the backyard so hopefully it turns out that way at the beach as well,” Mayor Manning said.

There is still time to sign up for the free beach cricket competition whether you are serious about the sport or just a slogger.

Teams of six can enter in either the serious or social slogger competition.

Winning teams will receive a $100 voucher to celebrate their victory at the Iron Bar in Macrossan St.

For more information or to register a team call Greg Mclean on 0458 705 438 or email

Entries must be received by 5pm Wednesday, May 23.
