13 busted for DUI
POLICE busted 13 drunk drivers over the first weekend of Carnivale with the vast majority locals. Two Cairns motorists were also charged for driving with an unspecified drug in their system with the Cairns Traffic Branch utilising the drug detection unit. Out of the 13 drinkdrivers, nine were from the Douglas region including a 24-year-old Port Douglas man who blew .185 and a 49-year-old Port Douglas man who blew .159. A 22-year-old West Australian woman blew the highest reading of .186. Police have reminded motorists they will be out in force again during the second week of Carnivale.
