U12 Pythons reach finals

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

THE Under-12s Douglas Pythons basketball team has reached the finals of the Smithfield competition.

The majority of the team have never played competition basketball before and learnt the basic fundamentals of the game when they joined the league.

Yet they continued their winning ways last week to win 22-6 in their final match before the finals to finish second on the ladder.

Coach Steve Hull said the boys have picked the game up very quickly.

“We have only games,” he said.

“Our boys are only around nine and 10 years old and have only lost to the top-placed team whose boys are 11 and 12 years old and play in representative teams.

They are showing incredible talent and are playing in great spirit.

“Finals take place next month and we’re hoping to go all the way and take out the win.”

The Pythons play their first final on June 1.
