Bud­ding au­thors urged to en­ter sto­ries

BUD­DING au­thors are be­ing en­cour­aged to put pen to pa­per for the fifth an­nual Gazette/ Reef Writ­ers short story and po­etry com­pe­ti­tion.

The com­pe­ti­tion of­fi­cially launches to­day and has been ex­panded to six cat­e­gories to en­cour­age greater par­tic­i­pa­tion.

Cat­e­gories in­clude open, in­ter­me­di­ate (1518 years) and ju­nior (9-14 years) short story and open, in­ter­me­di­ate and ju­nior po­etry.

En­tries can be fic­tion or non-fic­tion with the only stip­u­la­tion be­ing the works must be orig­i­nal and not pre­vi­ously en­tered in an­other com­pe­ti­tion.

While­away has again signed up as a spon­sor with hun­dreds of dol­lars in book vouch­ers up for grabs.

Or­gan­iser Pablo Free­man said he was keen to see the creativ­ity of the com­mu­nity on dis­play once again.

“Each year the qual­ity just gets bet­ter and bet­ter,” he said.
