Douglas Junior Netball started last Tuesday with the Pythons playing the Gladiators on court 1.In another fast and furious start with Hannah Durie GA for the Pythons all over the court as usual, the Gladiators centre Georgia McCarthy proved a force to be reckoned with her great defence and fast pace was brilliant to watch, Pythons WA Fauve Saleras did a great job keeping in from of her opponent but Gladiators WD Chelsea McKay was just as quick so it was a great contest between the two girls.
Charlotte Dowling’s defence skills were outstanding, destined to defend in the goal circle. Jenna Kerswell, Gladiators GD, stepped into the game and showed moments of brilliance. The second half was just as quick both teams equally skilled and matched, defence on both sides too good for either team to score in the 3rd quarter, last quarter the Gladiators stormed the court, Pythons Logan Buzza did her best to stop the Gladiators but they were on fire! The Wildcatz played Net Set Go on court 2 the teams play and train with the girls learning skills, rules and court etiquette, NSG’s Edie Thurtell was a standout for the game becoming a seasoned attack and Alex Brown lead well for the centre passes playing Wing Attack. The Allstars played some very pacy netball, Kate Padovan put in a brilliant defence and Jordan Scott a very strong centre. Final score Net Set Go 1 def. Allstars nil. The 12s on court 1 started with the Diamonds playing the Poison Apples the first quarter had both teams 4 goals each, the Apples played some great netball showing excellent teamwork and strong plays in defence, Shonnie Lomas was brilliant as Goal Keeper and Cartier Bennett was ever handy in all positions played. The Diamonds stepped up their act from the 2nd quarter gaining momentum over the court making it difficult for the Apples to score, Aleesha Viola was a force in attack and Piper Adams finished well at goal. Final score Diamonds 18 def. Apples 8. Umpires Alfina Tolentini and Mikeala Goodwin. Court 2 saw the Red Hot Peppers play the Miallo Allstars, the Allstars came out to play they were strong in attack and defence the players gelled as a team and were very hard to score against, Ebony Schonenberger was named players choice and Jenna Kerswell Best & Fairest. The Peppers were relentless in their defence against the Allstars the girls played with great confidence but could not overcome their opposition’s fast pace. The 14-16s competition began with the Sapphires playing the 12 Reps, The Sapphires narrowly defeated the Reps by 1 goal in the last quarter. Maddy Weaver and Holly Brown shot consistently for goal and Kloee Revel did a great job defending the Rep team shooters warding off many attempts at goal. For the Reps Lana Baxter again played well and Piper Adams shot 6 from 10 attempts, well done! Aleesha Viola and Bonnie Francis worked hard on the court. Final score Sapphires 15 def. Reps 14. Umpires Rochelle Miller and Kahlee Tesch. Match report by Carol Bennett. On court 2 the Breakers played the Fusion, the Breakers starred in the first quarter, Jess Viola shot well for goal, Lucy Webster was excellent in centre, Breeana Fordham all over the opposition and Georgia Duncan had lots of intercepts, the Breakers fought the game out to the end but struggled to get the ball up to their goals. The Fusion team stepped up in the 2nd quarter showing some strong game play, Lauren Radcliffe was excellent in attack, Rachael Goodwin shot well for goal, Hazuki Kirby lead the team well showing her experience and grace. Final score Fusion 19 def. Breakers 5. Umpires Tayler Durie and Saisha Schonenberger. Court 3 had the Dynamite play the Vipers, by the end of the first half the Vipers were a goal up, Saisha Schonenberger’s great defence made it difficult for the Dynamite’s to score and Molly Delaney put in a strong attack. The Dynamite had a burst of energy in the 3rd quarter shooting 5 goals to nil, Megan Von Keyserlingk proving herself a strong defence and Marley Cairns on fire for goal. Final score Dynamites11 def.
