On course for cham­pi­onships

MOSS­MAN Golf Club is in great con­di­tion and mem­bers will be en­joy­ing a great course for the first two days of the Club Cham­pi­onships this week­end.

Mean­while, on Tues­day, a field of 36 players com­peted in a Sta­ble­ford event which was won by Lloyd Red­path with 43 points. Sec­ond place was taken out by Wayne Sox­smith with 40 points and third was Lau­rie Prosser with 38 points on a count-back to Jeff Mur­ray.

Near­est-the-pins were Art Howard on 6 and 17, Larry Smith on 8, Cameron Wal­ton on 10 and Ge­off Par­menter on 13.

The Club is presently host­ing free clin­ics each Tues­day from 5pm un­til 6pm for young­sters aged six to 17 years. Please call Ge­off Good­win for fur­ther de­tails on 0418 456 901.

The win­ner of Wed­nes­day’s nine-hole event was James Doohah with 23 points on a count-back to Dan Hober and near­est-the-pins were Shona Barbour on 8 and He­len Gabour on 6.

Thurs­day’s Ladies Sta­ble­ford event was won by Julie Hooker with 36 points, sec­ond was Bev Cowe with 34 points and third place went to He­len Gabour with 33 points and near­est-the-pins were Tr­ish Landy on 6, Glenda Chris­tensen on 8 and 13 and Lucy Giles on 10.

The new spe­cial Fri­day Frolic (con­sist­ing of 9 holes, shared mo­torised buggy and a six-pack in ice to share for $30 per player) was en­joyed by lots of players, de­spite the show­ers and wet con­di­tions.

The win­ner of the Com­bined Club’s Monthly Medal on Satur­day was Rick Weimar with net 70 and run­ner-up was Den­nis Blake with net 72.

Gross win­ners were A-Grade Brett Jurie 78, B-Grade Art Howard 86, C-Grade Norm Lock­wood 91 and the net win­ners were A-Grade Brett Jurie, B-Grade Karl Latham (vis­i­tor), C Grade Ian McDow­ell.

Near­est-the-pins were Den­nis on 6, Barry Brims on 8, Keith Gard on 10, Rick Weimar on 13 and Bill Al­li­son on 17.

The win­ner of the Ladies Satur­day Com­bined Club’s Monthly Medal was Christie Bouwkamp with net 76 on a count-back to Bev Cowe. Bev also took out the putting com­pe­ti­tion, and near­est-the-pins were Patti Gra­ham on 8 and Christie on 17.

Mag­nif­i­cent weather was en­joyed by 32 Cairns’ players who trav­elled to Moss­man via Ma­reeba (due to the Cap­tain Cook High­way clo­sure) to com­pete in the sec­ond round of the Cairns/Moss­man Annual Chal­lenge.

Cairns pre­vailed af­ter the sec­ond round just beat­ing Moss­man this year, to make the long trip home on Sun­day more en­joy­able.

The Ladies pen­nant team played Match­play, in Gor­don­vale, and squared their match against Par­adise Palms with wins from Christie Bouwkamp, Shona Barbour and Car­lie Ed­wards.
