On course for championships
MOSSMAN Golf Club is in great condition and members will be enjoying a great course for the first two days of the Club Championships this weekend.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a field of 36 players competed in a Stableford event which was won by Lloyd Redpath with 43 points. Second place was taken out by Wayne Soxsmith with 40 points and third was Laurie Prosser with 38 points on a count-back to Jeff Murray.
Nearest-the-pins were Art Howard on 6 and 17, Larry Smith on 8, Cameron Walton on 10 and Geoff Parmenter on 13.
The Club is presently hosting free clinics each Tuesday from 5pm until 6pm for youngsters aged six to 17 years. Please call Geoff Goodwin for further details on 0418 456 901.
The winner of Wednesday’s nine-hole event was James Doohah with 23 points on a count-back to Dan Hober and nearest-the-pins were Shona Barbour on 8 and Helen Gabour on 6.
Thursday’s Ladies Stableford event was won by Julie Hooker with 36 points, second was Bev Cowe with 34 points and third place went to Helen Gabour with 33 points and nearest-the-pins were Trish Landy on 6, Glenda Christensen on 8 and 13 and Lucy Giles on 10.
The new special Friday Frolic (consisting of 9 holes, shared motorised buggy and a six-pack in ice to share for $30 per player) was enjoyed by lots of players, despite the showers and wet conditions.
The winner of the Combined Club’s Monthly Medal on Saturday was Rick Weimar with net 70 and runner-up was Dennis Blake with net 72.
Gross winners were A-Grade Brett Jurie 78, B-Grade Art Howard 86, C-Grade Norm Lockwood 91 and the net winners were A-Grade Brett Jurie, B-Grade Karl Latham (visitor), C Grade Ian McDowell.
Nearest-the-pins were Dennis on 6, Barry Brims on 8, Keith Gard on 10, Rick Weimar on 13 and Bill Allison on 17.
The winner of the Ladies Saturday Combined Club’s Monthly Medal was Christie Bouwkamp with net 76 on a count-back to Bev Cowe. Bev also took out the putting competition, and nearest-the-pins were Patti Graham on 8 and Christie on 17.
Magnificent weather was enjoyed by 32 Cairns’ players who travelled to Mossman via Mareeba (due to the Captain Cook Highway closure) to compete in the second round of the Cairns/Mossman Annual Challenge.
Cairns prevailed after the second round just beating Mossman this year, to make the long trip home on Sunday more enjoyable.
The Ladies pennant team played Matchplay, in Gordonvale, and squared their match against Paradise Palms with wins from Christie Bouwkamp, Shona Barbour and Carlie Edwards.
