Tourism Talk

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - TOURISM TALK -

WHAT a way to start the season. Carnivale, Coral Coast Triathlon, Heleikiki Ocean paddle, four cruise ships and the Cairns ironman all produced good numbers for the region. We have some initial figures on our media for Carnivale with the lead up famil generating over $930,000 worth of media exposure.

We facilitated Coxies World TV travel show, during Carnivale he has a huge audience and is very popular in Melbourne. They have some great footage and it should go to air shortly.

Talk about Melbourne, it’s great to see the Collingwood AFL team up in Port, getting some great news coverage, even if I am a Cats’ supporter.

Now with fantastic weather the tourists are arriving for what looks like a great start to the season. Wholesalers out of NZ are reporting excellent sales for July and August.

We have been busy hosting media and industry with more to come. Our Bloggers group, mentioned in this edition, were blown away by the area. While hosting them, one facebooked an image of the sunset from On The Inlet to her 42,000 fans and within 15 minutes received over 3000 likes. The reach of social media is incredible.

We are off to the Australian Tourism Exchange in Perth this week to meet with wholesalers from around the world. We currently have over 85 appointments in four days, so a busy week ahead.
