No change for caravans
MEANWHILE, as reported in last week’s Gazette pensioners at the Council-owned Wonga Beach Caravan Park were being threatened with 100 per cent rent increases.
One resident Joan Day who pays $120 was being asked to pay $252 - an increase of $132.
Cairns Regional Council has placed the introduction of new fees and charges for Council-managed caravan parks and campgrounds on hold.
Councillors yesterday asked for a further report into the financial operation of caravan parks and campgrounds to be tabled at the July ordinary meeting.
Mayor Bob Manning said councillors needed to be fully informed of any implications before determining the fee structure for these facilities.
“It was brought to council’s attention that the proposed new charges for the Wonga Beach caravan park were not considered appropriate,” Mayor Manning said.
“As a result, council has sought further information and, in the meantime, no changes will be made to the fees charged at any of the Council-managed caravan parks and campgrounds.”
All other changes to council’s fees and charges as detailed in the adopted Fees and Charges Schedule 2012/13 will take effect on July 1.
