THE Mossman hospital is also benefiting greatly from the Springboard Lend Lease program with extra decking and a ramp to the garden being installed.
The residents of the aged care facility at the hospital will no longer suffer the uncomfortably narrow verandas or need the help of nursing staff to get to the garden after the project is completed.
The extra decking will be done in eight weeks including oiling and painting.
Eventually the project’s aim is to plant a garden, build a rotunda and create an area where people can go when visiting their friend or family member to create somewhere homely for a change from the hospital ward.
Nick Storey from Sydney is involved with the project and said the Government will extend the roof to cover the extended veranda once completed.
“The roof over the decking is a government job,” he said.
“The roof on one side is rusted and they are going to replace the whole roof and add some extra roof at the same time, it should build a raised section with glass panels for light.”
