THE Port Douglas Local Ambulance Committee is holding a fundraiser in Port Village Shopping Centre on Sunday to celebrate Ambulance Week.
Volunteers will be selling cupcakes and cold drinks as well as collecting donations from 10am-2pm.
New Port Douglas Ambulance OIC Ian Day will also be there to meet and greet the community.
PDLAC secretary Julie Rose said the event was a good opportunity to create awareness of the role the committee plays in the community and hopefully recruit a few more members.
“Local Ambulance Committees are made up of members of the community who take an interest in the provision of ambulance services in their area in order to ensure their community receives the best possible service,” she said.
“Fundraising and donations go towards the purchase of extra equipment not provided for in the Queensland Ambulance budget.
“For example, some of the purchases made by the PDLAC over the years include a training mannequin, a satellite phone for use on jobs where mobile phone service is unavailable, a rescue scoop, defibrillator and splints.
“We have also received a donation of a defibrillator from the Rotary Club.”
