Bowls cham­pi­onships tight

AN­OTHER round of cham­pi­onship pairs com­pe­ti­tion on Satur­day saw G Wil­mot and J Gir­genti hold a tight lead over J Boa­dle and A McDon­ald 21-18 while D John­son and N Tesch de­feated J Sel­lars and T Pisot 24-11.

In the so­cial games, D Head, B Hande and J Fary de­feated A Dou­glas, Andy Christie and C Maxted 19-16, G Marsh and Kiwi de­feated Dick Pitt and Doug Pitt 24-18, S Chat­ter­ton, T Pitt and P Gor­such de­feated J Bea­z­ley, J Maxwell and J Bull 26-14, and the meat trays went to B Davies, P Cleary and E Verbi who de­feated D Power, C Wills and D Blain 27-13.

Next Satur­day’s so­cial bowls will be a me­mo­rial day to John Hock­ing with games com­menc­ing at 1pm with reg­is­tra­tions due by noon. All bowlers are wel­come and mufti dress is ok for non-full mem­bers. Full mem­bers are asked to wear whites.

On Sunday B-grade sin­gles will be played be­tween R Ash­ford and S Jel­lis while hand­i­cap sin­gles will be be­tween B Wol­land (-5) and T Pisot (+2).

And in the ladies re­sults, so­cial bowls was played with 15 ladies com­pet­ing. Win­ners were Ma­ree Crees, Val Franzi and Carole Maxted. Run­ner­sup were Jean Marsh, Mar­garet Cooper and Joan Day. The win­ner of the raf­fle win­ner was Glenise Sharp.

Graded pairs will be start to­day with Bev Zillfleisch, Mar­garet Cooper ver­sus Jan­ice Brly­ack and Dot Kostyrka. Jean Marsh and Glenise Sharp ver­sus Jan Gard and Estelle O’Rourke. Maria Mijo and Greta Kessler will play the fi­nal of the con­sis­tency with Robyn Petrus as the marker.
