Junior golfers represent
THREE local talented junior girl golfers recently travelled to Yepoon as representatives of the Far North Queensland Junior Jug Golf Team.
The event which is run annually is contested by junior golfers from all throughout the state and this year was held at the Yepoon Golf Club just outside of Rockhampton.
Managers Christine Benjamin (Mareeba) and Shirley Carney (Mossman) travelled with this year’s team which saw the return of veteran Gennai Goodwin and Kiara Lomas from Mossman and Caitlyn Hendrie from Gordonvale.
Competition was held over the four days June 25 to June 29 with most days seeing play in cold and wet weather but the girls familiar with the wet played exceptionally well.
Ms Benjamin said the girls all played below their handicaps and should be very pleased with their efforts of the week and taking out second place only by two points.
Competition winners were Wide Bay Burnett with 16 points, 2nd FNQ Qld on 14 points, Gold Coast 13.5 points, Nth Qld 12, Downs SW 11, Brisbane and District 9, and Central Qld 8.5.
