Ju­nior golfers rep­re­sent

THREE lo­cal tal­ented ju­nior girl golfers re­cently trav­elled to Ye­poon as rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the Far North Queens­land Ju­nior Jug Golf Team.

The event which is run an­nu­ally is con­tested by ju­nior golfers from all throughout the state and this year was held at the Ye­poon Golf Club just out­side of Rock­hamp­ton.

Man­agers Chris­tine Ben­jamin (Ma­reeba) and Shirley Car­ney (Moss­man) trav­elled with this year’s team which saw the re­turn of vet­eran Gen­nai Good­win and Kiara Lo­mas from Moss­man and Cait­lyn Hen­drie from Gor­don­vale.

Com­pe­ti­tion was held over the four days June 25 to June 29 with most days see­ing play in cold and wet weather but the girls fa­mil­iar with the wet played ex­cep­tion­ally well.

Ms Ben­jamin said the girls all played be­low their hand­i­caps and should be very pleased with their ef­forts of the week and tak­ing out sec­ond place only by two points.

Com­pe­ti­tion win­ners were Wide Bay Bur­nett with 16 points, 2nd FNQ Qld on 14 points, Gold Coast 13.5 points, Nth Qld 12, Downs SW 11, Bris­bane and Dis­trict 9, and Cen­tral Qld 8.5.
