Economic growth discussion
DIVISION 10 councillor Julia Leu met with representatives of the Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Port Douglas Daintree and Advance Cairns last Friday to discuss the formation of an economic development taskforce.
The meeting was the first step in the process with all stakeholders agreeing that a broad range of people with different skills and experience will be needed in the process as clear goals and a strategy evolves.
Experienced consultants Kleinhardts will be brought in to help identify kickstart contributors with differing skills, experience and investment in Port Douglas.
Cr Leu said the process required the support and input from all businesses, organisations and stakeholders.
“We must seize the momentum and sense of urgency that currently exists,” she said.
“No one group can achieve what is required and all business groups recognise the importance of driving the economy for the benefit of all the Douglas region.”
The group will meet again tomorrow to identify the next step.
