Marine man­agers meet

THE an­nual gen­eral meet­ing of the In­ter­na­tional Co­ral Reef Ini­tia­tive is be­ing held in Cairns.

Marine area man­agers from around the world are meet­ing up to fo­cus on pro­tect­ing co­ral reefs and share their un­der­stand­ing of pres­sures on the sys­tems and op­tions for re­duc­ing the threats.

The Great Bar­rier Reef Marine Park Author­ity is host­ing the event on be­half of the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment with over 50 par­tic­i­pants from 20 coun­tries tak­ing part in the four-day meet­ing.

Top­ics dis­cussed will in­clude li­on­fish in­va­sion in the Caribbean to marine-pro­tected ar­eas and ef­fec­tive marine-pro­tected area man­age­ment.
