BERNIE Wol­land won his first Moss­man Memo­rial Bowls Club A-Grade cham­pi­onship on Sun­day af­ter a tight tus­sle with David Blain.

It was the first time ei­ther bowler had qual­i­fied for the fi­nals of the A-Grade cham­pi­onships but in a rain-in­ter­rupted game Bernie proved too con­sis­tent to fin­ish the win­ner 25-14.

In the A-Grade pairs’ com­pe­ti­tion on Satur­day win­ners Col An­dreassen and Neville Tesch beat Ge­orge Wilmot and Joe Gir­genti 25-17 while Cal Wills and Tony Bry­lack de­feated R Ed­wards and Peter Cleary 24-13.

The semi fi­nal of B-Grade went to Cal Wills who de­feated Colt Dwyer 26-18.

Next week will see Doug Pitt and Bob Ash­ford play Tony Bry­lack and Cal Wills in self se­lected pairs.

Fi­nal com­pe­ti­tions in B-Grade com­pe­ti­tion will be played on Sun­day be­tween Cal Wills and Si­mon Jel­lis. Hand­i­cap sin­gles will be David Blain (-5) ver­sus Stewie Chat­ter­ton (+5) and Tony Pisot (+2) ver­sus Bernie Wol­land (-5).

So­cial bowls was en­joyed by 24 ladies re­sult­ing in two drawn games. Maureen Tucker, Val Sharpe and Jean Marsh (+21) and Jan­ice Brly­ack, Mar­garet Cooper and Bar­bara May (+21). Ca­role Maxted won the raf­fle.

Graded-pairs re­turns to­day with Car­men Bolton and Bar­bara May ver­sus Maria Mijo and Judy Maxwell. Jan Gard and Estelle O’Rourke ver­sus Zina Gir­genti and Ca­role Maxted. Triples nom­i­na­tions close on July 26 - please see the games’ di­rec­tor Val for de­tails.
