BERNIE Wolland won his first Mossman Memorial Bowls Club A-Grade championship on Sunday after a tight tussle with David Blain.
It was the first time either bowler had qualified for the finals of the A-Grade championships but in a rain-interrupted game Bernie proved too consistent to finish the winner 25-14.
In the A-Grade pairs’ competition on Saturday winners Col Andreassen and Neville Tesch beat George Wilmot and Joe Girgenti 25-17 while Cal Wills and Tony Brylack defeated R Edwards and Peter Cleary 24-13.
The semi final of B-Grade went to Cal Wills who defeated Colt Dwyer 26-18.
Next week will see Doug Pitt and Bob Ashford play Tony Brylack and Cal Wills in self selected pairs.
Final competitions in B-Grade competition will be played on Sunday between Cal Wills and Simon Jellis. Handicap singles will be David Blain (-5) versus Stewie Chatterton (+5) and Tony Pisot (+2) versus Bernie Wolland (-5).
Social bowls was enjoyed by 24 ladies resulting in two drawn games. Maureen Tucker, Val Sharpe and Jean Marsh (+21) and Janice Brlyack, Margaret Cooper and Barbara May (+21). Carole Maxted won the raffle.
Graded-pairs returns today with Carmen Bolton and Barbara May versus Maria Mijo and Judy Maxwell. Jan Gard and Estelle O’Rourke versus Zina Girgenti and Carole Maxted. Triples nominations close on July 26 - please see the games’ director Val for details.
