THE $500,000 announced in the budget for the Port Douglas master plan implementation will see the continuation of work already begun.

With the demolition of the waterfront houses, the money will go towards creating a grassed area with landscaping, irrigation and some seating for the public.

Mayor Bob Manning said the restoration of the waterfront land in preparation for the future development will be completed before the November total solar eclipse event.

“It should be done within the next two to three months and is certainly flagged ready for public use in time for the solar eclipse,” he said.

Division 10 councillor Julia Leu said she will be fighting for additional funding in the quarterly reviews of the budget to further implement the master plan.
