IN JUST a few short months, one Port Douglas woman who feared losing her home because she lost her job as a gardener has bounced back and been rewarded for her hard work - twice.
Now employed as the senior supervisor of stewards at the Sheraton Mirage, Di Wellham has been recognised and nominated by her peers for the awards called Rewards and Recognition.
Executive chef Klaus Keller nominated Ms Wellham for her “inspiring team leadership in the kitchen and lifting productivity and to help it run smoothly”.
For her dedication Ms Wellham was awarded the certificate inspiring leader and team champion. Her second award was the hotel champion outstanding leader.
Ms Wellham said it was nice to be recognised.
“I am very flattered and humbled by my colleagues choosing me but it really has been a whole team effort,” Ms Wellham said.
“I really could not have won without the support and effort of all of the staff, I love everyone at the Sheraton and they are a fantastic bunch of people - it’s a real family.”
For her efforts Ms Wellham was given a $200 voucher to spend at the Sheraton.
