PM enjoys relaxing break in Port
PRIME Minister Julia Gillard is in Port Douglas, taking a break from the spotlight as Australia’s leader to relax in tropical paradise with her partner Tim Mathieson.
The first sightings of the Prime Minister were on the weekend when she was spotted enjoying some sun and surf on Four Mile Beach.
A spokeswoman in the PM’s office said Ms Gillard will be spending the majority of her holiday in Port Douglas.
“The Prime Minister is spending a week in Far North Queensland with Tim where they will soak up the stunning scenery in and around Port Douglas,” she said.
“Port Douglas is a world-class holiday destination and the perfect choice for a short getaway.”
The spokeswoman said the Gazette would have more luck bumping into Ms Gillard somewhere in Port Douglas than her trying to get in touch with the PM for comment.
While she seems to be keeping a low profile, Facebook is abuzz with mixed reactions about the visit from locals who said they would chuck cane toads at her and “don’t trust her with my old town - she will give it to the boat people”.
But it is not all negative, with others stating: “No matter what your political views are, it is still great for Port Douglas having someone who attracts so much publicity visit our beautiful town.”
