Busted Rex Creek bridge reopens

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

THE Rex Creek suspension bridge has reopened.

But with ongoing problems many tour operators have taken the walk of their itinerary.

The suspension bridge, which leads to a popular rainforest walk, was closed after cracks were found.

This is not the first time the bridge has been closed and until a long term solution can be found, BTS Tours owner Rob West said they had given up on the walk.

“Over the last two or three years it’s been so unreliable trying to run a guided walk when so many times it had closures that should be a about a few days and spread into weeks,” he said.

“The last bridge closure was supposed to be closed for a couple of days and it spread to being about six months.”

Mr West said they given away the tour and instead offer transfers, allowing enough time for people to do the circuit walk if they choose.

Daintree Discovery Tours has also given away their tour of the popular walk because of the unreliability of the bridge.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service said it was looking at long term solutions to fix the troubled bridge.

The Baral Marrjanga rainforest boardwalk and the river walk, both starting from the car park, have remained opened.
