Lions charity golf day
MEMBERS and non-members are invited to enjoy the Mossman Lions’ Club Charity Golf Day on Sunday at the Mossman Golf Club.
The cost is $30 per player which includes a gourmet barbecue following the four-ball elimination ambrose event.
Registration is at the club at 11.30am for a noon shotgun start. Please book your team and (if required) motorised buggies at the Pro Store on 4098 2089.
Tuesday’s field of 44 players competed in a Stableford event which was won by Terry Plunkett with 41 points. Second was Laurie Prosser with 39 points and third was Rick Herschell one shot back on a countback to Jack Nelson.
Nearest-the-pins were Wayne Dowell on 6, Geoff Parmenter on 8, Terry on 10, Mal Phillips on 13 and John White on 17.
And for the junior players - don’t forget the Club is hosting free clinics each Tuesday from 5pm until 6pm for youngsters aged six to 17 years. Call Geoff Goodwin for further details on 0418 456 901.
The winner of Wednesday’s nine-hole event was Ron Smith with 22 points and second place was R Drew with 21 points on a count-back to Bob Hoskins and Bob Laybutt and nearest-the-pins were Bob Laybutt on 10, J Hawes on 13 and Ron on 17.
And on Thursday the Ladies’ Lucy Giles Monthly Medal was won by Katie Brims with net 71 on a count-back to Kerri-Lynn Williams and Gayle Healey. Narelle Johnson took out the putting competition, and nearest-the-pins were Narelle Johnson on 6, Trish Landy on 8 and Katie on 13.
The new special Friday Frolic (9 holes golf, shared motorised buggy and six-pack in ice to share for $30 per player) was enjoyed by plenty of social players. For players with handicaps, the competition was won by Des Graham with 22 points on a count-back to Patti Graham.
Saturday’s Port Douglas Pavillions Monthly Medal was won by Brett Jurie with a net 66, and visitor Brendan Woods with a net 65 won the voucher.
The gross winners were A-Grade Peter Chrisfield 73, B-Grade Ken Deuble 83, C-Grade Russell Watkins 93 on a count-back to Laurie Prosser.
The net winners were A-Grade Art Howard 75, B-Grade Russell Jeffrey 70, C-Grade Ian McDowell 71, and nearest-the-pins were Ian Steley on 6, Rick Weimar on 8, Mick Dowling on 10, Wayne Dowell on 13 and Peter Gray on 17.
Saturday’s Combined Clubs’ Monthly Medal was won by Carly Edwards with a net 68, second was Kim Edwards 70 and third place was Trish Landy 72. Kim Edwards also won the putting competition, and nearest the pins were Christie Bouwkamp on 6, Trish on 8 and Bev Cowe on 10 and 13.
Mossman hosted the FNQ District Ladies’ Golf Association players from Atherton, Mareeba, Cairns, Half Moon Bay, Gordonvale and Paradise Palms and all the players enjoyed their match-play in magnificent weather conditions.
The Sunday Stableford event was won by Julie Hooker with 39 points, one shot ahead of Barry Brims.
