Lions char­ity golf day

MEM­BERS and non-mem­bers are in­vited to en­joy the Moss­man Lions’ Club Char­ity Golf Day on Sun­day at the Moss­man Golf Club.

The cost is $30 per player which in­cludes a gourmet bar­be­cue fol­low­ing the four-ball elim­i­na­tion ambrose event.

Reg­is­tra­tion is at the club at 11.30am for a noon shot­gun start. Please book your team and (if re­quired) mo­torised bug­gies at the Pro Store on 4098 2089.

Tues­day’s field of 44 play­ers com­peted in a Stable­ford event which was won by Terry Plun­kett with 41 points. Sec­ond was Lau­rie Prosser with 39 points and third was Rick Her­schell one shot back on a count­back to Jack Nel­son.

Near­est-the-pins were Wayne Dow­ell on 6, Ge­off Par­menter on 8, Terry on 10, Mal Phillips on 13 and John White on 17.

And for the ju­nior play­ers - don’t for­get the Club is host­ing free clin­ics each Tues­day from 5pm un­til 6pm for young­sters aged six to 17 years. Call Ge­off Good­win for fur­ther de­tails on 0418 456 901.

The win­ner of Wed­nes­day’s nine-hole event was Ron Smith with 22 points and sec­ond place was R Drew with 21 points on a count-back to Bob Hoskins and Bob Lay­butt and near­est-the-pins were Bob Lay­butt on 10, J Hawes on 13 and Ron on 17.

And on Thurs­day the Ladies’ Lucy Giles Monthly Medal was won by Katie Brims with net 71 on a count-back to Kerri-Lynn Wil­liams and Gayle Healey. Narelle John­son took out the putting com­pe­ti­tion, and near­est-the-pins were Narelle John­son on 6, Tr­ish Landy on 8 and Katie on 13.

The new spe­cial Fri­day Frolic (9 holes golf, shared mo­torised buggy and six-pack in ice to share for $30 per player) was en­joyed by plenty of so­cial play­ers. For play­ers with hand­i­caps, the com­pe­ti­tion was won by Des Gra­ham with 22 points on a count-back to Patti Gra­ham.

Satur­day’s Port Dou­glas Pavil­lions Monthly Medal was won by Brett Jurie with a net 66, and visi­tor Bren­dan Woods with a net 65 won the voucher.

The gross win­ners were A-Grade Peter Chris­field 73, B-Grade Ken Deu­ble 83, C-Grade Rus­sell Watkins 93 on a count-back to Lau­rie Prosser.

The net win­ners were A-Grade Art Howard 75, B-Grade Rus­sell Jef­frey 70, C-Grade Ian McDow­ell 71, and near­est-the-pins were Ian Ste­ley on 6, Rick Weimar on 8, Mick Dowling on 10, Wayne Dow­ell on 13 and Peter Gray on 17.

Satur­day’s Com­bined Clubs’ Monthly Medal was won by Carly Ed­wards with a net 68, sec­ond was Kim Ed­wards 70 and third place was Tr­ish Landy 72. Kim Ed­wards also won the putting com­pe­ti­tion, and near­est the pins were Christie Bouwkamp on 6, Tr­ish on 8 and Bev Cowe on 10 and 13.

Moss­man hosted the FNQ Dis­trict Ladies’ Golf As­so­ci­a­tion play­ers from Ather­ton, Ma­reeba, Cairns, Half Moon Bay, Gor­don­vale and Paradise Palms and all the play­ers en­joyed their match-play in mag­nif­i­cent weather con­di­tions.

The Sun­day Stable­ford event was won by Julie Hooker with 39 points, one shot ahead of Barry Brims.
