Hall of famers
THE Daintree Discovery Centre and Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures will be inducted into the Tropical North Queensland Tourism Awards Hall of Fame.
Six businesses will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 14th annual TTNQ Awards at the Cairns Convention Centre on Saturday night.
Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures will be honoured in the major tourist attraction category while the Daintree Discovery Centre is being recognised after winning best tourist attraction three years in a row - the second honour for the center after already being inducted for the ecotourism award.
Daintree Discovery Centre owner Ron Birkett said they were thrilled and the honour was a tribute to the staff.
“It rounds things off nicely to be in the hall of fame twice and it’s really down to the staff, they really make the business and it’s a great achievement,” he said.
“We always look at ways to improve and offer a better service, it’s obviously tough times for everyone in tourism in Far North Queensland.
“We’re developing the Chinese market, we’ve now got audio in Mandarin and Cantonese in anticipation of that market and have also launched a children’s tour as well on our audio units.
“Hopefully we can continue to grow our business and keep our business looking good, we’ve had a good season and hopefully that will continue into the Christmas school holidays.”
