The voices re­turn

THE sublime sounds of The Aus­tralian Voices will echo through Moss­man and Port Dou­glas churches later this month.

For al­most 20 years, The Aus­tralian Voices ensem­ble has toured the world show­cas­ing the work of Aus­tralian com­posers and is recog­nised as one of the finest a cap­pella en­sem­bles in the world.

Af­ter a tri­umphant sea­son at the Ed­in­burgh Fes­ti­val Fringe, The Aus­tralian Voices is bring­ing its stun­ning choral singing back to the Far North.

Fea­tur­ing a reper­toire that in­cludes Mozart, Rch­mani­nov, Bruck­ner and Bach as well as Aus­tralian com­posers Gor­don Hamil­ton, Wil­liam Bar­ton and Stephen Leek, The Aus­tralian Voices per­for­mance will fea­ture throat-singing, didgeri­doo sounds, scat­ting and beau­ti­ful choral har­monies to the won­der­ful acous­tic set­tings of St David’s Church in Moss­man and St Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Dou­glas.

Com­poser Gor­don Hamil­ton said the ensem­ble will also host a choral work­shop one hour be­fore each concert. “Any­body can show up,” he said. “It’s a very easy song and we make sure peo­ple fit in and feel com­fort­able while singing.”

The con­certs will be held at St Mary’s in Port Dou­glas on Oc­to­ber 18 from 7pm and St David’s in Moss­man on Oc­to­ber 22.
