The voices return
THE sublime sounds of The Australian Voices will echo through Mossman and Port Douglas churches later this month.
For almost 20 years, The Australian Voices ensemble has toured the world showcasing the work of Australian composers and is recognised as one of the finest a cappella ensembles in the world.
After a triumphant season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The Australian Voices is bringing its stunning choral singing back to the Far North.
Featuring a repertoire that includes Mozart, Rchmaninov, Bruckner and Bach as well as Australian composers Gordon Hamilton, William Barton and Stephen Leek, The Australian Voices performance will feature throat-singing, didgeridoo sounds, scatting and beautiful choral harmonies to the wonderful acoustic settings of St David’s Church in Mossman and St Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Douglas.
Composer Gordon Hamilton said the ensemble will also host a choral workshop one hour before each concert. “Anybody can show up,” he said. “It’s a very easy song and we make sure people fit in and feel comfortable while singing.”
The concerts will be held at St Mary’s in Port Douglas on October 18 from 7pm and St David’s in Mossman on October 22.
Tickets are available from www.theaustralianvoices.com or call 1300 657 974.
