A tee-off for Chisel

AN AMBROSE event to com­mem­o­rate the loss of the club’s great mate Ian “Chisel” McCor­mack has been ar­ranged for this Satur­day, so grab your funny hat and colourful out­fit for what prom­ises to be a fun day.

Ev­ery­one is wel­come and a bus will be leav­ing the Bar­rier Reef Tav­ern at 11.30am. Book your team and the bus with Jock on 40981570.

Fol­low­ing a few show­ers on Mon­day, the course was in great con­di­tion for Tues­day’s Port Dou­glas Golf Tours Monthly Medal. The win­ner was John Hawes with a net 67, sec­ond was Ge­off Par­menter with net 69 and Mal Phillips net 70.

Near­est-the-pins were Michael Gabour on 6, Lau­rie Prosser on 8, Gra­ham Cook on 10, Si­mon Nel­son on 13 and Wayne Sox­smith on 17.

And don’t for­get the club is host­ing free clin­ics for ju­nior play­ers each Tues­day from 5pm un­til 6pm for those aged from six to 17 years. Call Ge­off Good­win for fur­ther de­tails on 0418 456 901.

The win­ner of Wed­nes­day’s nine hole event was Ge­off Good­win with 21 points, ahead of He­len Gabour with 20 points and near­est-the-pins were John Cameron on 6 and Lucy Giles on 8.

The Thurs­day’s Ladies’ Lucy Giles Monthly Medal was won by Leonie Phillips with a net of 72, sec­ond was Patti Gra­ham with net 75 and Glenda Christensen with net 76. Glenda also won the putting com­pe­ti­tion on a count-back to He­len Gabour. And near­est-the-pins were Patti on 6, Christie Bouwkamp on 8, Lucy Giles on 13.

The Fri­day Frolic (9 holes golf, shared mo­torised buggy and six­pack in ice to share for $30 per player) was en­joyed by plenty of so­cial play­ers. For play­ers with hand­i­caps, the com­pe­ti­tion was won by Ge­off Good­win with 25 points ahead of Ed Sant with 22.

Play­ers en­dured some af­ter­noon show­ers, on Satur­day, in the Brian “Boof” MacDon­ald Monthly Medal. The event was won by Rus­sell Watkins with net 63 and run­ner-up Zac Hoare with net 64.

Gross win­ners were: A Grade Char­lie Kadic 81, B Grade Ian Ste­ley 86 and C Grade Broz Jurie 92.

The net win­ners were: A Grade Michael Walsh 73, B Grade Kevin Rob­son 72 and C Grade Mau­rie Meth 71.

Near­est-the-pins were Ralf Mid­del on 6, Sammy Brischetto on 8, Rus­sell Watkins on 10, Jeff Bo­chow on 13 and Bruce Cheesman on 17.

The Ladies’ Port Dou­glas Com­bined Club Monthly Medal was won by Leonie Phillips with net 69 on a count-back to Christie Bouwkamp. Christie also won the putting com­pe­ti­tion.

Near­est-the-pins were Bev Cowe on 6, Leonie 10 and Glenda Christensen 13.

A small field com­peted on Sun­day, and John Rea­son took home the voucher with 39 points ahead of Shona Bar­bour with 33 points. Near­est-the-pins were Art Howard13 and 17 and Shona Bar­bour10.

The Men’s Pen­nant Teams trav­elled to Cairns on Sun­day to play match-play against strong play­ers from Cairns and Paradise Palms. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Jeff Bo­chow who won his match.
