Smith and Inglis head list of heroes

KAN­GA­ROOS cap­tain Cameron Smith and Souths su­per­star Greg Inglis will be among the leg­endary names of rugby league, rugby union and cricket in town next Thurs­day as spe­cial guests at QT Port Dou­glas Sport­man’s Din­ner.

For­mer Aus­tralian Rugby League half­back Billy J Smith will be MC on the night and will have many tales af­ter rep­re­sent­ing Aus­tralian in 18 Tests and eight World Cup games, in­clud­ing cap­tain­ing Aus­tralia in a World Cup game against Great Bri­tain in 1970.

Cur­rent cap­tain for the Aus­tralian team, the Queens­land State of Ori­gin team and Mel­bourne Storms, Cameron Smith will grace Port Dou­glas with his mighty pres­ence for the din­ner.

League le­gends who will also be at­tend­ing the din­ner in­clude Queens­land State of Ori­gin, Aus­tralian in­ter­na­tional repre- sen­ta­tive and cur­rent Rab­bitohs full­back Greg Inglis and tal­ented Bull­dogs prop Ai­den Tol­man.

Rep­re­sent­ing all things great about rugby union will be El­ton Flat­ley, for­mer Aus­tralian in­ter­na­tional rugby union foot­baller and Queens­land Reds player.

To round out the spe­cial guest list, the first bats­man to reach 1000 runs in the Pura Cup play­ing for Queens­land, Jimmy Maher, will also be a spe­cial guest on the night, bring­ing to the ta­ble a Queens­land crick­eter leg­end.

QT Port Dou­glas pub­lic re­la­tions man­ager Wendy Porter en­cour­ages ev­ery­one to come along and en­joy a beau­ti­ful din­ner, meet the sport­ing greats and help raise money for a good cause.

“All pro­ceeds go to Camp Qual­ity and it’s go­ing to be a three course meal with a four-hour drink pack­age of beer and wine from 6.30pm to 10.30pm and the guests com­ing is ex­cit­ing,” she said.

“There will be a lit­tle bit of ban­ter, they will prob­a­bly get up on stage and it’s def­i­nitely an adult only event be­cause be­ing a sports­man’s din­ner there’ll be a bit of swear­ing go­ing on.”

In a bid to raise money for the char­ity and to help ev­ery Dou­glas sport­ing fan’s col­lec­tions, there will be a char­ity auc­tion of sport­ing mem­o­ra­bilia on the night.

The Sports­man’s Din­ner will be held in QT Port Dou­glas’s Man­hat­tan Ball­room, tick­ets cost $99 per per­son or $900 for a ta­ble of 10 and all pro­ceeds to the leg­endary night will go to Camp Qual­ity.
