Marlin may be banned from marina

PORT Dou­glas Mari­nas may in fu­ture refuse to al­low fish­er­men to use its fa­cil­i­ties to weigh or un­load gi­ant marlin af­ter the back­lash which has fol­lowed last week’s use of a crane at the marina to weigh a 400kg mon­ster. Lo­cal recre­ational and char­ter boat fish­er­men and mem­bers of the pub­lic were left seething af­ter the skip­per of a Gold Coast-based boat used the Port Dou­glas marina to weigh the marlin us­ing a crane in front of dozens of tourists. Meri­dien gen­eral man­ager of de­vel­op­ment and mari­nas Craig Davies said the skip­per re­quested us­ing the marina be­cause the boat could not get into the duck­pond. “It was a last-minute re­quest and we wanted to give some as­sis­tance,” he said. “We will re­view the de­ci­sion and if there is a bet­ter al­ter­na­tive then we will adopt that.”
