Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - BUSINESS -

This year held interesting results in the visitor surveys conducted by Tourism Research Australia. Overall visitor numbers were up 9 per cent on 2011, which included a 19 per cent increase in the domestic market, however the international market dropped 15 per cent. Visitor nights have taken a similar trend and overall were up 8 per cent, with domestic visitor nights up 21 per cent, however international visitor nights were down 22 per cent. Average length of stay in Port Douglas was 5.2 nights in the domestic market and five nights in the international market. This compares well against the overall Tropical North Queensland average length of stay, with 5.1 nights in the domestic market and 8.8 in the international market.
