Mud­dies U16’s get their first win

THE Un­der-16s Dou­glas Mud­dies started off with a win in their first game of the sea­son at the Port Dou­glas Sport Com­plex play­ing a one dayer against Norths last Satur­day.

Cap­tain Kaiden Sorensen lost the toss and the op­po­si­tion chose to bat. Play­ing his first Un­der-16 match with his new team, Keel Sorensen opened the bowl­ing with some great spin bowl­ing.

Mud­dies’ first four bowlers re­stricted the op­po­si­tion score to only eight af­ter seven overs.

Nathan Evans was the first to break through with only his fourth ball and had the op­po­si­tion 1-12 be­fore Michael Schulz fol­lowed suit by claim­ing two wick­ets with catches to wick­et­keeper Ethan McCul­lough and Hay­den D’Ad­dona.

Bowl­ing fig­ures for the Mud­dies were Tom Goodall 1-1 off four overs, Kaiden Sorensen 1-4 off four, Michael 2-10 off four, Nathan 1-3 off two, Keel Sorensen 0-5 off three overs, Hay­den 0-10 off four, Adon Trewick 0-5 off three, Sean Evans 0-4 off two, Ash­ley Dav­i­son 0-5 off two, and Ben Shrimp­ton 0-5 off four.

The Norths bat­ting to­tal af­ter 32 overs was 6-53.

The Mud­dies went in to bat need­ing 54 to win in 32 overs. Hay­den and Ash­ley opened the bat­ting but lost their wick­ets as Ben and Ethan stead­ied the ship and lead the team to 3-57 af­ter 16 overs.

Af­ter 29.3 overs the Mud­dies were all out for 93 with Ethan top scor­ing on 23 and Ben not out on 20 runs. The Mud­dies won by 40 runs.

The Mud­dies Un­der-16’s have a bye for the next two weeks, but many of the play­ers will still be busy with rep­re­sen­ta­tive tri­als.
