Rain fails to dampen kids’ fun

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

IT WAS a case of singing in the rain at Mossman Showgrounds yesterday as Mossman and Port Douglas community play groups joined together for a morning of fun to celebrate Children’s Week.

The wet weather certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the young preschoolers as they splashed in the puddles, danced in the rain and took part in games, activities and entertainment by locals Bree and the Bopstars.

Children’s Week aim to focus the attention of the wider community on children, their needs and achievements, and well as celebrating the right of children to enjoy childhood.

The morning, hosted by Mossman Community Playgroup, attracted a large crowd of mums, dad and bubs, to enjoy face-painting, slip and slide, bouncy castle, games and more.

“It’s great for both playgroups to come together, and to show what we do,” Playgroup co- ordinator Amber Dolphin said.

“We fundraise throughout the year so that we can take the kids on excursions, and organise events for them such as this.

“We’re always looking for new members to join, and for any parents who are willing to get involved with the committee.”

The Mossman Community Playgroup meets weekly on Wednesdays between 9.30am - 11.30am.

For more information on joining the playgroup contact Amber on 4098 2005.
