Business awards night
PORT Douglas Chamber of Commerce president Phoebe Kitto was named Business Person of the Year at the Port Douglas Magazine awards on Saturday night.
Ms Kitto, who owns Human Resource Dynamics, said she was surprised by the award but flattered to receive recognition for her hard work within the local business community at the awards ceremony, held at the Sheraton Mirage on Saturday night.
“It’s great to receive this individual recognition, however it is important to recognise that here in Port Douglas we all have to come together collectively and think laterally as a business community,” she said.
“It was really great to see so many business people out supporting and congratulating each other’s efforts and achievements.”
Mossman and Port Douglas Tree Lopping owner Billy Quaid was also humbled to receive the Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce Young Achiever award.
“I was honoured to win this award - starting as a small family business, we’ve grown successfully over six years to now employing over 160 local staff,” Mr Quaid said.
“My business would have never grown and never be what it is today without the incredible support of the community, and the great staff we have working here - any business is only as good as its staff.
“We still have room for expansion within the Douglas region, and beyond, and are very focussed on hiring and looking after local people.”
Port Douglas Magazine editor Roy Weavers said the event, which recognised local business achievement in 29 categories, exceeded all expectations.
“This event seems to offer something positive and proactive to the business community, and acts as a measure to businesses in terms of how well they are doing,” he said.
