In the 1970’s, ski lift op­er­a­tors needed to find a way of get­ting down the moun­tain they were on in a bit of a hurry, so, ob­vi­ously, they de­cided to tie a shovel to a horse and sled down-hill on it.

To­day this prac­tise is now its very own sport and shovel races are quite pop­u­lar in the ski­ing cal­en­dar
