FUTURE LOOKING ROSIE

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE - DOUG RYAN EO

THE future of the region is looking better and busier than it has for some time.

Bookings right through until the end of November are looking strong with the wedding market flat out.

I believe there have been as many as 16 weddings in the one weekend recently.

From the industry side, Inbound Up North has just been held hosting 45 agents promoting international travel into the region.

Sell TNQ is being held this weekend hosting 35 representatives of the Incentive, Meeting and Conference industry and Tropical North Queensland will be hosting Tourism Australia’s Corroboree UK Europe next year bringing in over 150 Aussie specialist travel agents, from our major international markets.

With the China flights starting next week, it will be interesting to see the regional dispersal.

Several of our major industry partners have been heavily involved in the market and hopefully will reap the rewards.

Speaking with the inbound China market operators over the last few days, most did not expect to use Port Douglas for some time, however most saw growth possibilities in the VFR (visiting friends and relatives) and possible top end FIT (free independent traveller) markets.

We have been active in the VFR market where travel arrangements are made through l ocal travel agents in the predominately Chinese districts and a family member will normally accompany them.

Our members are able to access more information on the Chinese market from our own China Ready document on our website.

With the eclipse almost on us there is huge domestic and international media interest which will show our great destination to the world.

We are working closely with the TQ media team to ensure the Port Douglas Daintree region maximises its exposure.

Many of the media crews will be moving about the region on the days before and the morning of the eclipse, so please assist them wherever possible.

Finally, congratulations to all those who have received an award in the TNQ awards, the Eco awards and our local Port Douglas Magazine awards. Well done everyone. Cheers,
