AFTER a feverish campaign, former Livingstone shire residents gave the nod for de-amalgamation from Rockhampton Regional Council.

Livingstone and Rockhampton City Council were both described as financially ‘‘moderate’’ before amalgamation in 2008 while Mount Morgan and Fitzroy Shire were rated as very weak and weak.

With Livingstone now to split from the other three, the balance appears set to weigh in Livingstone’s favour.

With 30 per cent of council’s workforce to head to Livingstone, Mayor Margaret Strelow said they would use the major restructure to build a more ‘‘progressive and aggressive’’ attitude.

Cr Bill Ludwig has indicated he hopes to change Livingstone’s name to Capricorn Coast Regional Council if he is elected as mayor of the new council.
