Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - LETTERS -

MEMO to: Peter Beattie. You told us our rates would decrease by 3 per cent after amalgamation. You were very wrong. Anna Bligh. You met with us at Mossman Town Hall to see what all the fuss was about. You had your staff record our concerns and promised to get back to us. We are still waiting. Jason O’Brien. Do you still think we are ‘‘just like Cairns’’? Warren Pitt. Do you still think we are ‘‘delusional’’? Bruce Gardiner. When we get our microfiltration system working again, would you please collect your poisonous chlorine canisters? We never wanted them in the first place. People of Douglas financial backers. Thank you. Your relentless campaign that concentrated on the supposed financial cost made people realise that the cost had little to do with our decision. It was really about independence and freedom. What price freedom. The majority are prepared to pay the cost, if there is one. Your very well-funded campaign actually helped the yes vote. Politicians of all colours. Never force unpopular decisions on voters. You do so at your peril.
