Nautical Mile opens doors for boaties to ramp it up

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - BUSINESS -

BEFORE setting sail, boaties are being urged to cast an eye over new business Nautical Mile Sales and their stocked of all things marine-related.

Opening next Thursday, Nautical Mile Sales owners Andrew and Jane McNeil say they have supplies at competitive prices to Cairns, from bait and fishing gear to nuts, bolts, refrigeration and ultimately even boating insurance.

The couple, who had been working from home for about a year, recently decided it was time to set-up shop in one of the most convenient maritime locations in Port Douglas - just opposite the boat ramp.

Mr McNeil said the move was a natural progression.

‘‘I was on a boat from two days old, I have been boating all my life and I worked in a chandlery for the last 15 years before heading off sailing around the world,’’ he said.

‘‘It’s in my blood, we also had before this business a marine brokerage and were selling boats for four years.

‘‘We want to eventually bring that back on board, along with the boating insurance.

Mr McNeil said they have been busy getting the shop ready to open next week as stock drifted in.

‘‘The main thing is we want to compete with Cairns, I can’t see why we can’t meet Cairns prices and try and keep it local,’’ he said.

‘‘We will also look at incentives for people to buy from us and try to get everything, from anywhere, anytime.’’

Nautical Marine Sales is located on Wharf St, Port Douglas, opposite the boat ramp.
