Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

THE Port Douglas cyclone shelter is available for use by the community.

To make use of the facility people should get in contact with the Port Douglas State School who will send out a terms of use and negotiate costs.

Principal Benjamin Gaske said the P & C will be governing the shelter and will approve applications appropriate for the use of the shelter and within the school ethos.

‘‘To cut a long story short we want it to be used appropriately so it’s always ready for a cyclone - hopefully it never gets used as a cyclone shelter,’’ he said.

‘‘ We have basketball so far but we encourage the use it, from sporting associations to taekwando and karate.

‘‘And although there’s no staging in there at the moment we are happy to work with theatre organisations to get staging with a community partnership and look for grants.’’

For more information on accessing the facility contact the Port Douglas State School on 4084 3222.
