Paws and Claws family fun day
THE call is going out for owners and their dogs to join in a family fun day to raise funds for a badly-needed new animal care facility in Port Douglas.
Paws and Claws Port Douglas, the Cairns Road Runners and Cairns Regional Council have combined to organise next month’s event which will include a fun run.
Paws and Claws is a not-for-profit organisation in desperate need of a new facility to house local homeless animals and provide boarding kennels.
The new facility requires the organisation to raise $350,000 in order to develop the 4000sq m land located at Craiglie, donated by a local development company.
RECS Consulting Engineers and Building Designers and Builders designed and documented the new facility free of charge.
The Cairns Road Runners initiative will con- sist of two courses, a 7km run for adults and their dogs, and dogs and a 2km walk and run for all ages and their canine friends.
Event co-ordinator Liz Need said they’re expecting a positive response for both events.
‘‘With events such as cane toad racing and the highly acclaimed pet talent competition So You Think You Can Bark, there is something sure to appeal to everyone,’’ Ms Need said.
The event hopes to raise $10,000 through fun run entries, raffle tickets and donations.
Registration is $15 for adults, $5 for children and $30 for families.
The event has been set down for April 20, with check-in starting at 7.30am and the fun run beginning at 8am.
Registrations for the fun run can be made at http://www.roadrunners.org.au.
