Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - LETTERS -

A German film company brought a dose of soap opera love to Silky Oaks Healing Waters and Spa on Tuesday during filming of the German version of The Love Boat - Das Traumschiff or Dream Boat. The show - which will air in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on December 26 and January 1 - is the story of a man who escapes from Germany to become a farmer in Queensland. The popular television show added the Mossman Gorge to its exotic locations which have included Polynesia and Las Vegas, US. Douglas Shire Mayor Mike Berwick is calling on Douglas Shire residents to ‘‘express their views’’ on how a Daintree Ferry Levy should be implemented following a council decision last Thursday to charge $4-pervehicle for the controversial levy.

The driver of a delivery truck who rolled his vehicle in Craiglie on the Captain Cook Highway was ‘‘very lucky’’ to escape unscathed from the over turned , according to Port Douglas Police constable Donna Brotherton. The single-vehicle accident, which occurred on Monday at about 10.15am, left the delivery truck lying on its side across the highway and restricted traffic flow for about two hours. Douglas Shire Council will carry out a traffic safety audit of Douglas Shire roads which have been singled out by the Mossman Central Mill for B-double use. The mill is this year changing its haulage from semitrailers to B-doubles - trucks with two trailers - which mill manager Alan Johnstone said would reduce operating costs and freight costs. Port Douglas musician Graeme Spark will revisit his days as a Hawthorn full-forward this Friday when he performs at the Hawthorn Hall of Fame function. After several reserves games at the start of 1976, Spark was promoted to the Hawthorn seniors where he kicked three goals in two games but knee injuries ended his career.
