Fresh taste of par­adise for Car­ni­vale

CON­NOIS­SEURS of fresh lo­cal pro­duce, de­li­cious food and wine will be ex­cited to hear of the new­est edi­tion to the Car­ni­vale line-up, A Taste of Par­adise.

The all-day event will take place un­der the trees of Mar­ket Park on Wharf St and will com­bine food demon­stra­tions, din­ing and en­ter­tain­ment.

The day will be­gin from 9am with tan­ta­lis­ing pas­tries and cof­fee as well as cook­ing demon­stra­tions on stage by celebrity chef of Surf­ing the Menu fame, Ben O’Donoghue, and food writ­ers Kerry Heaney and Natascha Mirosch will be fly­ing in to give ev­ery­one the low­down on the lat­est restau­rant trends.

The art of food and wine or beer­match­ing will also be re­vealed by a master wine maker and the master brewer from Sky Breweries.

There will be free wine, beer and food tast­ings and the op­por­tu­nity to buy dishes cooked by top chefs of the re­gion.

Har­risons Restau­rant co- owner Reina Pa­trick said the new event is all about cel­e­brat­ing lo­cal pro­duc­ers and restau­rants of the re­gion.

‘‘It has come from restau­rants ask­ing for this for many years, for Car­ni­vale to high­light restau­rants and the unique prod­ucts that pro- duc­ers make in Port Dou­glas and Far North Queens­land,’’ she said.

‘‘We need as much par­tic­i­pa­tion and sup­port as pos­si­ble, in­clud­ing get­ting the restau­rants be­hind it, for a suc­cess­ful event to have it again next year on a big­ger scale.

‘‘It’s a free event with cook­ing pre­sen­ta­tions, celebri­ties on stage and com­pli­mented with stalls from lo­cal pro­duce from the whole re­gion.

‘‘There will be food and wine stalls and restau­rants who will be us­ing as much lo­cal pro­duce as they can to high­light what makes restau­rants here in the trop­ics so spe­cial.’’

The event will fin­ish by 5pm and par­tic­i­pat­ing restau­rants will have a set Car­ni­vale menu for peo­ple to con­tinue their all-day din­ing ex­pe­ri­ence into the night at a restau­rant of choice.

And if that was not enough, there will be a Taste of Par­adise con­cert at the Sher­a­ton Mi­rage with spe­cial guest Daryl Braith­waite.

Taste of Par­adise at Mar­ket park is free en­try from 9am to 5pm on Satur­day May 25, fol­lowed by a Taste of Par­adise din­ing ex­pe­ri­ence and the Taste of Par­adise con­cert from 7.30pm.
