Fresh taste of paradise for Carnivale
CONNOISSEURS of fresh local produce, delicious food and wine will be excited to hear of the newest edition to the Carnivale line-up, A Taste of Paradise.
The all-day event will take place under the trees of Market Park on Wharf St and will combine food demonstrations, dining and entertainment.
The day will begin from 9am with tantalising pastries and coffee as well as cooking demonstrations on stage by celebrity chef of Surfing the Menu fame, Ben O’Donoghue, and food writers Kerry Heaney and Natascha Mirosch will be flying in to give everyone the lowdown on the latest restaurant trends.
The art of food and wine or beermatching will also be revealed by a master wine maker and the master brewer from Sky Breweries.
There will be free wine, beer and food tastings and the opportunity to buy dishes cooked by top chefs of the region.
Harrisons Restaurant co- owner Reina Patrick said the new event is all about celebrating local producers and restaurants of the region.
‘‘It has come from restaurants asking for this for many years, for Carnivale to highlight restaurants and the unique products that pro- ducers make in Port Douglas and Far North Queensland,’’ she said.
‘‘We need as much participation and support as possible, including getting the restaurants behind it, for a successful event to have it again next year on a bigger scale.
‘‘It’s a free event with cooking presentations, celebrities on stage and complimented with stalls from local produce from the whole region.
‘‘There will be food and wine stalls and restaurants who will be using as much local produce as they can to highlight what makes restaurants here in the tropics so special.’’
The event will finish by 5pm and participating restaurants will have a set Carnivale menu for people to continue their all-day dining experience into the night at a restaurant of choice.
And if that was not enough, there will be a Taste of Paradise concert at the Sheraton Mirage with special guest Daryl Braithwaite.
Taste of Paradise at Market park is free entry from 9am to 5pm on Saturday May 25, followed by a Taste of Paradise dining experience and the Taste of Paradise concert from 7.30pm.
