Street parade given new meaning

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - GROOVE -

AS PREPARATIONS for Carnivale 2013 take shape, the call has gone out for the colourful and quirky to put their thinking caps on to take part in the street parade.

Organisers are hoping this year will see a record number of floats, after more than 40 last year had the large crowd cheering.

The theme for this year’s parade is ‘‘Carnivale, what does it mean to you?’’

It is hoped such a general theme will produce a great diversity of floats, with the entrants’ imaginations the only factor.

Three prizes will be on offer, with $1000 being awarded to the best overall float, $250 for the best community float, and $250 for the best corporate float. Whether you’re a business, a community group, recreational group or individual, now is the time to start planning. Registration at www.carnivale.com.au. Entries close in eary May.
